Landgate Announcement: Timing update for new strata management educational model in WA.

Landgate has released an important update to strata managers regarding the consultation and implementation of the proposed amendments to the Strata Titles (General) Regulations 2019 (STGR).

SCA (WA) has been heavily involved in shaping the six proposed amendments to the regulation STGR and support the changes as a positive outcome from collaborative industry consultation to enhance standards and increase the professionalism of the strata sector in Western Australia.

The proposed amendments expand the educational qualifications and introduce experience requirements for professional strata managers, as well as create new career pathways and redefine some roles and responsibilities to better meet industry needs.

Initially due to come into effect on 1 May 2024, and provide a two-year transition period for strata managers to achieve the new education requirements, the amendments will now be implemented across two phases.

Phase 1:

Will amend the commencement date of the transition period from 1 May 2024 to 1 November 2024. This will allow an additional six-months for strata managers to complete and comply with the required education qualifications, with these needing to be completed by 31 October 2026.

Phase 2:

Will include the public consultation and subsequent implementation of the draft amendments to the education model. The draft amendments are due to be released for consultation in Q2 2024 and further timings will be available after this.
